Sad Valentine for a Gold Coast Working Girl by Tony Fitzpatrick

Sad Valentine for a Gold Coast Working Girl by Tony Fitzpatrick from The Wonder: Portraits of Rememberd City, Volume 2; Dream City

  • Being on my own domain! I’ve owned this URL for years and there have been half-fledged attempts at a portfolio site here and there but nothing that was really quite to the caliber that it should be. The blog is really been blooming (to me anyhow!) so it seems fair that it should be front & center while I create a far more acceptable pdf portfolio/case studies to present to the world.
  • Going to sleep at the same time Scott does. He’s a bit more of a night owl than me (not that I don’t want to be!) and has been staying up super late this week. But last night, we got into bed at the same time and while it was time for sleeping, we stayed up and talked for awhile. Not only was it just nice to connect and calm the rush of everyday life but we also talked about The Future; plans, schemes, musings.

Stack o' books for my birthday!

  • Some amazing design books that my friend Tim picked up from a garage sale for me as a belated birthday present at $2 a piece! They’re the sort of coffee-table-ish books that I covet; things that are mostly pictures and not much text that I really adore looking at but rarely do. I find them cost-prohibitive for the most part which is part of why these are so fantastic. I love them far more for $2 a pop than $45.
  • Tony Fitzpatrick. The Wonder: Portraits of a Remembered City; Volume 2: The Dream City. This book is so awesome that it gets it’s own bullet point (it also doesn’t appear to be for sale anywhere but you can check out the rest of it’s included work on the artist’s website). First off, Tony Fitzpatrick‘s work is utterly amazing. The composition, the chaotic mash of imagery and the stylistic choices are really beautiful. I actually sat down with a cup of coffee, on a quiet morning and thumbed through it. I’m a constant multitasker so it’s extremely rare that something gets my whole undivided attention. This did.  & I want the other two in the series! Other bonuses include: Mr. Fitzpatrick is from Chicago<3, a wonderful introduction & the actual book was designed by FireBelly Designs (who are also in Chicago in addition to giving back to the community).

What’s causing your heart strings to twang this week?

4x6: Absolutely No Pirates

I was hunting for dingbats at work and stumbled across this gem. This isn’t a formal 4×6 but I thought it was too funny not to share.

Tonal Tuesday: muddled emotion

Tone it down. Soothing and strong at the same time. Muddled and mixed. A little masculine, a little feminine. Androgynous.

Chicago by Bicycle

Urban Outfitters

  • The lovely jewelry stand that my mother-in-law & her family sent me as a belated birthday present. I’ve been coveting it for months & it goes perfectly in our bedroom.
  • Bicycling to different areas than I normally would on my commute. I got to ride to a different section of the city today due to a work conference. It was fun! And despite being a relatively fair-weather bicycle commuter for the past 3 years, today was the first time that I ever rode my bicycle across Michigan Avenue. It’s always terrified me before! It wasn’t too scary this morning, eastbound on Ohio. And I managed to dig out my gorilla pod and snap loads on the way. Few of my favorites are much larger on my flickr set dedicated to ride photos.
  • $5 Cheeseburgers from Dunlay’s on the Square. So Full.
  • More food: strawberry ice cream. I get on kicks for most things and will eat/listen/watch/wear them until I tire of them and put them away. After some indistinguished point of putting them away, I take them out again & fall in love all over again. Currently this is happening with the Haagen Daas Strawbery ice cream.
  • Plans to be really productive this weekend. Building a massive to do list and hoping to check some of the things off.

What’s floating you love boat this week?
