Real Estate Love: 228 W. Illinois in River North
Things that I love this Thursday:
- 228 W. Illinois. I absolutely adore this old fire station in River North. I’ve worked in River North (mostly) since 2005 so I’ve seen it a lot but finally stopped & took some pictures on a relatively sunny day. It’s glorious. I want to live there. Le sigh. & note the awesome building numbers! I swear there’s nothing I don’t like about this building.
- Ankle weather! As in, it’s warm enough for ankles (though not toes) to be out again! Cuffed jeans & ballet flats. Woo! Only in Chicago* is 40ºF+ something to be celebrated (any place that truly gets cold).
- Cha-cha-changes. It’s time for me to be excited.
- The idea of a discounted pre-sale price on hats! I was thinking about offering a limited number of pre-sale hats where you would be able to pick out your desired color from a palette & hat style in May for delivery by September. Buying one of these pre-orders would save you $15 off the full fall/winter season price. What do you think? Would anyone be interested in this?
- I’m also thinking about offering up my freelance services! Want me to design something for you? Send me an email (julie@rottencupcakes.com) & let’s talk! I <3 small businesses.
- My love. He’s pretty awesome.
What’s the word, hummingbird?

i work in river north! i work at the chicago school on wells, right on the river. across the street from the merch. mart. we should get lunch or something one day.
i think your pre-sale would be great. i am insanely cheap, it’s ingrained in me, and the thought of getting one of your hats at -$15 would totally inspire me to buy. and i think some of my friends would as well. i’d be happy to promote!
today i love:
~ the hot, sexy, red, patent, open-toed, stilletto (omg) heels i bought yesterday for my trip to NYC. these shoes are so unlike me but they look amazing and i am going to rock them!! please sweet lord do not let me bust my ass while wearing them. then again if i do, it will be in front of people i will likely never see again, and friends who will help me up and laugh with me (ok, and probably at me a little too).
~ the weather – YES. thank you thank you thank you for the higher temps even though the moisture has caused my curly hair to freak out. i’ll deal. i’m scared to jinx it by saying winter’s over. but it is a pleasure to *enjoy* my walk to/from office & train rather than *enduring*, you know?
~ the fact that my office-mate allows me to sing, hum and whistle along with the music i listen to. the fact that she doesn’t hate the music i listen to.
~ the chinese food i’m about to get for lunch.
I’d love to get lunch with you sometime but sadly, I don’t actually get to leave my desk very frequently. Maybe a coffee after work sometime? I usually work til 6pm.
Thank you for your feedback on the hat pre-sale! I really appreciate it.
& thank you for sharing your love for the week! I always look forward to your comments!
I keep forgetting to ask, and I know I could probably find this out on my own, but how did you make the etsy banner over on the right? the one that features your products? I need to make one for my blog.
It’s a widget! You can find them on Etsy in your personal settings (under Promotion, it’s called Etsy Mini) & set it to either show your favorite’d items or your store items, then you can decide the shape & size of the widget. It will generate an embed code for you based on those selections.
Thanks!! I made one.
The widget looks great!
Thanks, Chaely!
I am a HUGE advocate for holiday shopping year-round (haha I typoed “rear-round”) in order to spread the credit card balance over several months. I would definitely like to get in on a pre-order pre-sale if you decide to go that route.
Awesometown!
yes on the hat pre-sale! excellent idea.
i know what you mean about the weather — it’s about 40 in mpls too so i busted out my transitional-seasons coat. i’m freezing in it at night but it feels so good to wear.
Thank you for the feedback on the pre-sale idea! I’m thinking I’ll be going through with it!
Mmm.. I love the transitional season coats. They’re always so cute! I have a slight addiction.
