It’s been a smidge since I’ve done one of these— mixing up the format to play with the proportions of the color. It’s not just about the individual colors but also how they balance and communicate with one another. One of the reasons color is so delightful is this silly brain dance.

Inspired by a case of the noms…

& now for the most impractical children’s hat ever!
I had this color combo stuck in my head for awhile and felt the need to knit it out. It does actually fit on my head but it’s a tish snug for my liking so I’ll just call it a children’s hat. Made out of Merino wool, alpaca & silk. Totally suitable for children, right? Handwash, lay flat to dry. Completely practical. Ha! Not at all. ANYWAY. I started with a simple skull cap, chocolate, brown & cream (like coffee!). When I was finished with the cap, it didn’t look quite done to me so I decided to pick up a few stitches and sort of knit-sculpt to make tiny animal ears. This is the result….

I think the next iteration will be in a far more practical yarn option.

The smell of books, the cozy shady nooks, the warm wood tones and the soft buttery leather all gave the library it’s well-deserved reputation of comfort & solace but it was the memories of the fingers turning page after page and the stories and worlds that people escaped to through the words that really gave it that je ne sais quoi.

Save the drama for your mama and wear fabulous colors instead.

Giddy electric hues of summertime, popsicles & chlorine.

In the attic, in a trunk, wedged under the eaves behind too many boxes of old christmas decorations and odd ephemera that had gathered in the dust and cobwebs was the most magnificent handmade afghan. It was overly large and fluffy still and surprisingly soft, despite it’s years. Made by some ancestor, slowly and with love, the silken fibers were still divinely cozy and strong. It was a timeless blanket made of wool & warm thoughts.

Someday summer would return. Bright colors, ice cream cones and children running wild, the long days would come again.
