Tonal Tuesday: the wool as surprisingly soft

Tonal Tuesday: the wool was surprisingly soft

In the attic, in a trunk, wedged under the eaves behind too many boxes of old christmas decorations and odd ephemera that had gathered in the dust and cobwebs was the most magnificent handmade afghan. It was overly large and fluffy still and surprisingly soft, despite it’s years. Made by some ancestor, slowly and with love, the silken fibers were still divinely cozy and strong. It was a timeless blanket made of wool & warm thoughts.

Tonal Tuesday: off the handle & out the window

Apr 12 2011

The house was quiet in the morning but a silent flurry of preparation had begun. Alice had decided and there was no stopping, no hesitation; she just jumped out the window and flew away into her future, full of shiny promise and warm whispers.

Tonal Tuesday: decadence and velvet

Apr 05 2011

Electric velvet afternoon. Maribelle dropped some acid & then lounged on the fainting couch, eating delicious colors the rest of the pulsing sunshine-filled afternoon. Like you do.

Tonal Tuesday: decadence and velvet

*please note: I’ve never done acid. I am just guessing. ha!

Practice what you preach. Embrace the changes coming. Ride the tides that rise and crash. Ever evolving. Do not stagnate. Adaptation. Focus on the forward.

Tonal Tuesday: a modern man

What am I picturing: a danish mid-century teak, black-buttery leather arm chair. A cashmere scarf. Bourbon. Feel cozy yet?

A note about the black in this color palette:
If you’re a designer, you know that CMYK stands for the printing process that uses 4 diffferent inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. This is known as 4-Color prints. Any black that consists of more than one ink is referred to as a Rich Black. It’s the black that’s “blacker than black.”

More technical jibber jabber: Don’t go using Rich Black for small type on something that’s to be printed in large quantities on thinner paper*. If the printer’s registration is a smidge off, this can ruin the legibility of your type.

*That’s a lot of caveats, you might say. Well, yes, there are a lot of factors that go into this equation but this is a good general rule. Your mileage may vary using heavier weight, more absorbent paper (not glossy) or small enough quantities that great care goes into each individual print.
