Knitting Adventures: Purl Soho Warehouse

After living here for almost 2 years, I think I finally found my kind of LYS (local yarn store) in Orange County— huzzah! Purl Soho has a totally awesome open-to-the-public warehouse in Tustin, CA (they also run really lovely blog called the Purl Bee). The warehouse is AMAZING! The hours are slim but worth getting over there. Shelves upon shelves of lovely soft things in a gorgeous array of color and pattern. Yarn, fabric, notions & two nice employees filling shipping orders. I loved that she asked me if I had ever been there before and then quickly explained the layout of the warehouse and left me to it! I was so nice to just sort of wander around in all the color for awhile. LOTS of colors, plenty of volume and my yarn snobbery was assuaged with their well-curated selection of fibers.

You* are for gifts. Sending the blue to my grandma who is just learning how to knit along with a cowl pattern drafted by me. I’ll figure out the cowl pattern by knitting with the silver to gift to a friend.

Wednesday Interlude: Zig Zag Scarf

Zig Zag Scarf with Mystery Yarn

This is a gift for a family member whom I will see this weekend (huzzah!). I love how this turned out, despite being a teeny bit shorter than intended. The mystery yarn was a giftmas present from my soon-to-be sister-in-law (also the lady behind Lucky Hanks). I’m not positive on the fibers but it feels cotton-y? & has a neat variegation & a pretty color palette.

I lucked upon the zig zag, I think. I used the Sinful Rib. It’s reversible & a short repeat which made it very low maintenance brainwise and good for a bit of mindless knitting & sitting in front of the television but still a bit interesting-looking.

The things that are making this week alright:

My friend reviving his blog & some absolutely stellar photos! Check out Luke’s photos (& tutorials!) at ninethreestudio
Socially-acceptable breakfast ice cream (jamba juice)
Replacing fear with curiosity…and Yes and Yes. Uplifting without being too saccharine? Check. Funny and smart? And check.
Bicycling to work again! I missed Dolores!
Do you ever make a list of projects you probably will never start let alone finish? I certainly do and here’s a new one to add to it: How-To: Felt Argyle Cushion cuteness!
More bicycle-love and a love of autumn, but you know the crunch of the leaves when you walk over them? that lovely noise that maybe makes you make an effort to step on every single leaf? That. Except instead of using my feet, I use my bicycle.
